ASANO

Mezzo-soprano

CHIHIRO ASANO is a mezzo-soprano based in Boston and is originally from Japan. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy and a Graduate Diploma in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory.

In 2023, she was recognized as a Puerto Rico District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.

 

Ms. Asano's artistic endeavors have illuminated her exceptional talent as an interpreter of new music.  Her performances were marked by the premieres of several cross-disciplinary new operas and original compositions, showcasing her versatility and artistry on stage.  Notable roles include Shizue in Shizue: An American Story with Portland Opera, and Johnna in Naomi in the Living Room with Boston Opera Collaborative.

This exceptional artist made a captivating debut as Hansel with Boston Lyric Opera in the Artist Classroom Visits production of Hansel and Gretel, bringing opera to numerous Boston-area school students.  Additionally, she portrayed Cinderella in La Cenerentola with Boston Lyric Opera's Opera101. Her versatile talent has graced esteemed musical venues throughout New England, including White Snake Opera, MassOpera, Boston Opera Collaborative, NEMPAC, Nightingale Vocal Ensemble, Cambridge Chamber Ensemble, and Capella Clausura.

In addition to her performing career, Ms. Asano is deeply committed to teaching voice and advancing her knowledge of voice science.  Recently, she presented her research on the Japanese female voice in Anime at the Pan American Vocology Association (PAVA) Conference.
